SHARC

Scarborough Coastal Health and Care Research Collaborative (SHARC) initiative was established in response to the Chief Medical Officer’s 2021 report on health in coastal communities, aiming to address social determinants of health and reduce inequalities. We cover Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Bridlington and span approximately ten miles in land.

Co-funded by York St John University and the Trust, SHARC promotes community-led research, collaboration between primary and secondary care, and increased research activity in Scarborough. Guided by a diverse Steering Group and supported by a community advisory group, a dedicated team has been established. SHARC seeks to improve health outcomes for coastal populations through inclusive, high-quality research

Our vision is to better address the health and care needs of our coastal populations through high quality collaborative research with community involvement.

Affiliates Scheme Overview

The SHARC Affiliates Scheme is designed to create a collaborative and inclusive network that strengthens research, innovation, and knowledge sharing across SHARCs geographical footprint. By connecting professionals, stakeholders, and communities, the scheme aims to foster partnerships that drive impactful projects and broaden perspectives on health inequalities affecting our East Coast and rural towns.

Affiliates will gain access to resources, lay training, and opportunities that support both personal and professional growth while contributing meaningfully to research aimed at reducing disparities and improving health outcomes in these communities.
