About Us

Gastroenterology Research

Our research focuses on the digestive system and its disorders with us having a particular interest in diagnostics.  Over the years our professor and colleagues have worked hard to generate a Trust sponsored, home grown, research portfolio that has gained regional and national accolade.  This has consequently provided key service improvement and improved clinical care for patients.  In addition, we have also participated in a number of NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) portfolio adopted Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) studies.  Where ever possible we involve the IBD Specialist Nurses in these and even have those who have extended their research interest into undertaking PhDs.  Gastroenterology research has a strong presence in the Trust.

One of the department's most recent success stories was Dr James Turvill's Fast Track Faecal Calprotectin study which evaluated a streamlined care pathway for identifying and treating IBD and IBS patients.  They study won the Service Improvement Award at the 2017 Medipex NHS Innovation Awards and Showcase.
