About Us

Gastroenterology Research

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine which focuses on the digestive system and its disorders.

The Gastroenterology Research Team has an excellent national reputation for delivering clinical research.  For the 2016/17 period the team recruited more participants than any other Trust in the Yorkshire and Humber region and amongst the very best in the country!

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research has been a big area for the department with the Trust developing and supporting a number of important clinical trials looking at improving the treatment for this common condition.

One of the department's most recent success stories was Dr James Turvill's Fast Track Faecal Calprotectin study which evaluated a streamlined care pathway for identifying and treating IBD and IBS patients.  They study won the Service Improvement Award at the 2017 Medipex NHS Innovation Awards and Showcase.
