About Us

Respiratory Research

Our respiratory research takes two distinctive pathways by either investigating Cystic Fibrosis (CF) or other respiratory conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), Asthma and Sleep Apnoea.  Over recent years our respiratory colleagues have also actively engaged with relevant pandemic research looking at conditions such as COVID 19 and Flu.  Our Trust runs a CF service across both York and Hull hospitals and we have a very research engaged group of both clinicians and allied health professionals that participate in research at these sites.  One of our main focuses in this area is intervention to support the adherence to treatment in patients with CF as well as the impacts of new marketed treatments.  Part of this research involves rolling out the intervention into clinical care to promote the quality of patient experience and management of their condition.  In addition to this research, we also run a number of NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) portfolio adopted studies that look at new drug treatments for COPD, breathlessness interventions for IPF and genetic testing of patients with Asthma.  We do have home grown research in respiratory that is being undertaken by our allied health professional colleagues who are studying for PhD qualifications.
